Lord Gerald Thornton •
Benedict Cumberbatch • Open
Gerald Thornton, born of nobility, lived a fine childhood with his family. He was entering his teens when suddenly his life was turned around. His mother went into a panic when his father was arrested for practicing magic. The king then was much more tolerant and left him alive, having been a friend of the wizard, but, after months, pressure and threats from neighboring kingdoms left him no choice but to execute Lord Thornton.
Knowing her son was next, not being magical herself, Gerald’s mother begged her husband’s brother to take him in and claim him as his own. However, always having been envious of Gerald’s father for obtaining magic when he could not, his uncle turned him away, claiming he did not wish to endanger his own son, Nathaniel. Gerald and his mother were forced to flee into the forest.
Lady Thornton was a frail woman, and did not last the first winter there in the cabin Gerald built. He almost grew mad there by himself until a young witch named Seraphina appeared. The two clung to each other almost immediately, becoming the family both lacked and needed. As years passed, shared misery grew into hatred and they both knew hiding was not enough when there were others to protect and avenge.
